Camshaft Position / TDC Sensor for Hyundai–Kia β›½

Why this part is needed

This sensor tells the ECU the exact top-dead-center and camshaft phase. With this timing signal, fuel injection and ignition happen at the right moment. It improves cold starts, power, economy, and emissions. Without a precise cam signal, modern engines cannot run smoothly.

How it works βš™οΈ

A Hall-effect element reads the cam sprocket’s trigger wheel. As teeth pass the tip, the sensor generates a digital on/off waveform. The ECU uses this pattern to sync with the crank signal, select the correct cylinder for injection, and control variable valve timing where fitted.

What if it fails ❗

Typical faults: long crank or no start, rough idle, misfire, weak acceleration, poor economy, and the check engine light (cam/crank correlation codes). Intermittent signals cause random stalling. When the signal is lost, the ECU may enter limp mode or refuse to start.

Tech notes ?

Inspect connector and harness for oil ingress or chafing. Mount with clean O-ring, seat fully, and do not shim. Clear fault codes and verify cam/crank sync after install.
