    Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) for Hyundai–Kia

    Why this part is needed

    This sensor tells the ECU how hot the coolant is. The data sets cold‑start fuel, idle speed, ignition timing, fan operation, A/C cut-off, and even shift strategy. With a healthy ECT sensor, you get smooth starts, stable idle, good economy, and protected engine temperature ️.

    How it works

    Inside is an NTC thermistor bathed by coolant. As temperature rises, resistance drops. The ECU reads the voltage change and calculates exact temperature. It’s usually mounted in the head or thermostat housing, sealed by an O‑ring, with a 2‑pin connector. The ECM uses this signal to trigger the radiator fan, adjust mixture, and manage emissions.

    If the sensor fails ⚠️

    Expect hard cold starts, rich or lean running, rough idle, poor MPG, overheating or fan stuck on/off, weak performance, and MIL with codes P0115–P0119. Diagnose by comparing scan-tool temp to ambient, or ohm‑testing in hot water. Replace, fit a new O‑ring, torque lightly, and bleed air.
