Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor for Hyundai/Kia
This OEM-grade EGT sensor monitors heat in the exhaust stream so the ECU can protect the turbo, control DPF regeneration, and keep emissions in check. Built for harsh thermal cycles, it restores precise temperature feedback, stable performance, and clean exhaust.
Why you need it
The ECU relies on accurate exhaust temperature to time post-injection, manage EGR, and start/stop DPF regen. A healthy sensor prevents overheating, saves fuel, and avoids soot build-up. It also helps maintain factory power and smooth drivability.
How it works βοΈ
Inside the probe is a fast-response thermistor. As exhaust temperature rises, resistance changes. The ECU reads this as a voltage signal and adjusts fueling, boost, and regeneration strategy accordingly. The stainless tip resists corrosion, and a heat-shielded lead keeps the signal clean under high heat.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Common effects: Check Engine Light, limp mode, poor acceleration, excessive fuel use, failed or frequent DPF regens, overheating risk to turbo/DPF, and possible fault codes like P0544/P2031. Long-term driving with a bad sensor may crack the DPF or damage the turbo.
Install tips β
Work on a cold exhaust. Soak old threads with penetrant. Use anti-seize on the new sensor (avoid the tip), route the harness away from hot edges, and torque to spec. After installation, clear codes and verify live EGT readings; perform a service regen if required.
