How it works ⚙️
The sensing tip sits in the exhaust stream and measures oxygen content after combustion. It sends a voltage signal to the ECU, which then fine-tunes injector pulse and ignition corrections. Most units include an internal heater so the sensor reaches operating temperature fast, improving cold-start control and reducing smoke.
Why replacement matters ✅
If the sensor becomes slow, contaminated (oil/coolant), or the heater circuit fails, the ECU may run “rich” or “lean” as a guess. That can cause higher fuel use, power loss, rough idle, and faster catalyst damage.
