Crankshaft Position Sensor for Hyundai & Kia ?
This engine sensor is a key input for the ECU. It is needed to track crankshaft speed and exact position so the ignition spark and fuel injection happen at the right time. Without an accurate signal, the engine cannot “sync” correctly, especially during start-up and low RPM driving.
How It Works ⚙️
The sensor reads a toothed wheel on the crankshaft and converts rotation into an electrical pulse signal. The ECU uses these pulses to calculate RPM, detect cylinder timing reference, and adjust ignition and injection timing. This improves smooth idle, fuel economy, and overall drivability.
What Happens If It Fails ?
A weak or dead sensor can cause hard starting, sudden stalling when hot, misfires, rough idle, loss of power, and a no-start condition. In many cases the check engine light appears and the ECU may cut fuel/spark for safety, leaving you stranded.
