Power Steering Reservoir Seal for Subaru

This small but critical reservoir seal keeps the Subaru hydraulic steering system tight and quiet. It sits between the power steering tank connection and the feed path to the pump, locking in fluid and blocking air. A fresh seal means smooth, light steering and a clean engine bay.

Why you need it

Over time rubber hardens, shrinks, or flattens. When that happens, the reservoir joint can draw air or seep fluid. Air in the system makes the pump foam the fluid and lose pressure, while leaks waste ATF and dirty nearby components.

How it works ⚙️

It’s a precision molded O-ring/packing that compresses under the reservoir fitting. Designed for ATF, heat, and engine-bay vibration, it keeps the suction side airtight so the pump always receives a solid fluid column.

If the seal is worn or broken

Expect cold-start groan, steering shudder at parking speeds, whining pump, foamy fluid, wet stains around the tank, and eventually premature pump wear.

Tech tips for installation

Clean the seating surfaces, lightly oil the seal with fresh ATF, seat evenly, verify hose clamps and hose condition, and bleed the system after refit. Always replace during hose or tank service.
