Steering rack dust bellows for Subaru performance models

This protective boot seals the steering gear from road grit, water, and salt. It shields the inner tie rod and rack shaft, keeping grease inside and contamination out. If you want precise steering feel and long rack life, this small part does big work ️.

Why you need it

Without a healthy dust boot, debris chews the rack teeth and inner tie rod joint. Seals wear faster, steering gets loose, and power steering fluid can leak (on hydraulic systems). It can also fail inspection due to safety concerns.

How it works

The flexible EPDM accordion slips over the rack housing and inner tie rod, then locks with clamps. As you steer, it compresses and extends, keeping a clean microclimate around the moving parts while retaining grease.

What happens if it’s broken ⚠️

Tears or loose clamps let water in: corrosion, stiff or notchy feel, knocks on turns, uneven tire wear, and early inner tie rod/rack damage. Ignoring it can lead to an expensive rack replacement.

Tech tips βœ…

  • Replace clamps and check inner tie rod play during service.
  • Clean seats, lightly grease lips, avoid twisting the bellows.
  • Perform wheel alignment after any steering work .
