Gear Housing Dust Boot for Subaru Manual Shift ?

This flexible bellows seals the top of the transmission where the selector rod passes through the housing. It keeps dirt, water, and road salt out, holds grease in, and blocks heat and fumes from entering the cabin. Built to OEM geometry, it restores tight, crisp shift feel and protects the linkage for long service life.

Why this part is needed

  • Stops contamination that can chew up the selector joint.
  • Preserves factory lubrication inside the gear housing.
  • Cuts NVH: less whine, less hot air, fewer odors in the cabin.
  • Maintains precise engagement across all gears βš™οΈ.

How it works

A molded rubber/EPDM bellows slips over the housing lip and around the shift rod. With its sealing ridge and clamp groove, it flexes with lever movement while keeping a continuous barrier. The inner lip retains grease around the pivot ball and socket, ensuring smooth, low-friction motion in every gate.

What happens if it’s damaged ?

  • Notchy or sloppy shifting from dried or contaminated joints.
  • Grease leaks onto the tunnel; burning odor on hot exhaust.
  • Moisture ingress leading to corrosion and premature wear.
  • Increased cabin noise and possible misalignment over time.

Replace at the first signs of cracking, hardening, or tears. Install is straightforward: lift the console, remove the lever retainer, swap the boot, seat evenly, and secure clamps. A film of silicone grease on the sealing lip helps seating and longevity.
