Speedometer Driven Gear Assembly for Toyota Automatic Transmissions βοΈ
This driven gear unit is a small but vital part inside the transmission tail/extension housing. Its job is to take rotation from the output shaft and convert it into a steady drive for the speedometer cable or vehicle speed sensor. Without it, the speed signal becomes wrong or disappears, which affects safe driving and can confuse shift timing on some systems.
Why this part is needed β
The gearbox output spins at a rate that changes with road speed. This gear set creates the correct ratio so the dash speed reading stays accurate. It also helps keep odometer mileage truthfulβimportant for service intervals and resale.
How it works
A plastic/nylon driven gear meshes with the internal drive gear. As the shaft turns, the teeth rotate the driven gear at a calibrated speed. That motion turns the cable core or triggers the sensor, sending a clean speed signal to the cluster/ECU.
