This precision gear sits in the transmission tail housing and converts output shaft rotation into a clean speed signal for the cluster and ECU. It drives the speedometer/odometer , supports cruise control, ABS/VSC, and helps the TCM choose correct shift points. A fresh unit restores accuracy, prevents nuisance warnings, and keeps mileage tracking legal and reliable.
How it works
The molded gear meshes with the transmission drive gear, turning a sensor shaft that the vehicle speed sensor reads. Correct tooth count matches tire size and final drive. An integrated O-ring seals ATF, and a retaining clip locks the gear in place. It’s plug-and-play, no wiring changes.
What if it fails
Expect bouncing or dead speedo, frozen odometer, harsh or late shifts, cruise drop-out, ABS/VSC lights, or P0500 code. Worn teeth or a cracked hub can also cause ATF seepage. Continued driving risks poor fuel economy and premature transmission wear.
Tech tip
Inspect the drive gear and replace the O-ring. Lightly oil before install; seat fully and secure the clip.
