Why you need it
This gear lives in the automatic transmission and drives the speed signal your car depends on. It feeds accurate road speed to the cluster, ECU, ABS, and cruise control. Correct ratio keeps the odometer honest, shift timing smooth, and fuel trims stable. It also helps match speed readout to tire size and differential ratio. Ideal replacement when the original gear is cracked, stripped, or swelled by heat and ATF.
How it works ?
The transmission output shaft turns a drive gear, which meshes with this driven gear. As the teeth rotate, they spin the vehicle speed sensor. The sensor sends clean pulse signals that the dash converts into km/h or mph. Proper tooth count ensures the pulses match the carβs calibration, so the speedometer and ECU see the right speed.
What happens if itβs broken ?
Chipped or worn teeth cause a dead or jumping speedometer, harsh or late shifts, cruise drop-out, wrong odometer readings, and possible ABS or check engine lights. If the O-ring hardens, ATF seepage can start at the housing.
