How It Works
The ring uses a tapered friction cone to match speeds between the gear and the sleeve. When you move the shifter, the blocker teeth and cone surface create drag, equalize RPMs, then let the dog teeth mesh cleanly. Proper cone clearance and sharp teeth are essential for reliable shifts under load.
If Worn or Broken
Expect hard 3rd-gear engagement, grinding noise, pop-out under acceleration, and metal dust in oil. Continued use can damage the hub/slider, gear dog teeth, and bearings, leading to costly rebuilds and downtime.
Build & Install Tips
