In a manual transmission, the synchronizer equalizes speed between the gear and the sleeve before engagement. How it works
During a shift, the baulk ring rides on the gear cone and creates controlled friction to match speeds. Once synchronized, the sleeve slides over the dog teeth for a smooth lock.
