Manual Gearbox 5th/6th Shift Fork Set 🔧

This precision shift fork is a key internal part of the manual transmission that guides the selector sleeve when you choose 5th or 6th gear. It’s needed to keep gear engagement straight, smooth, and repeatable, especially under boost, towing load, or fast highway shifting.

How it works ⚙️

When you move the gear lever, the shift rail moves this fork. The fork then pushes the synchronizer sleeve to lock the chosen gear to the shaft. Correct fork shape and pad clearance prevent the sleeve from dragging or stopping short, helping the synchros do their job and reducing heat and wear.

If the fork is worn or broken 🚫

A damaged fork can cause hard shifting, gear grind, popping out of 5th/6th, or a “stuck between gears” feeling. Continued driving may destroy synchronizers, chip gear teeth, and send metal debris through the gearbox—turning a small repair into a full rebuild.

Best practice ✅

During installation, inspect the rail, sleeve, and synchro hub for scoring, and verify end play and fork-to-sleeve contact. Fresh fluid and correct torque specs help ensure long service life.
