Reverse & Overdrive Shift Fork (Transmission Selector) βοΈ
This transmission shift fork is a key selector piece that helps your gearbox engage Reverse and Overdrive smoothly. It is needed whenever the shifter feels loose, gears refuse to engage, or the vehicle pops out of gear under load. In both manual and internally-shifted units, the fork keeps the sliding collar/synchronizer aligned so the chosen gear locks in with the correct tooth contact.
How it works ?οΈ
When you move the gear lever, the shift rail pushes the fork. The fork then slides the synchronizer sleeve to the correct position, allowing the transmission to connect the desired gear set. Proper fork shape and tight contact surfaces ensure clean engagement, low noise, and reduced wear on the synchro hub.
Symptoms of a worn or broken fork ?
- Grinding when selecting Reverse or Overdrive
