This precision baulk ring restores crisp, grindβfree gear changes in your manual transmission. Itβs a critical part of the synchronizer set that matches shaft and gear speeds before the dog teeth engage. Without it, every shift risks noise, wear, and damage to costly gearbox parts.
Why this part is needed βοΈ
It creates controlled friction on the gearβs cone, slowing or speeding the gear to the exact rpm needed. That alignment lets the slider engage cleanly, protecting the hub, sleeve, and gear teeth for long gearbox life.
How it works οΈ
The ring sits between the gear cone and synchro hub. Its tapered inner face bites the cone, equalizing speeds; a precise stop gap then allows the sleeve to lock the gear. Correct clearances and clean oil are essential.
What happens if itβs bad β
Grinding on shifts, hard engagement, popβouts, metal glitter in oil, and accelerated tooth wear. Ignoring it can crack the sleeve, chip dog teeth, and contaminate bearingsβleading to a full rebuild.
Installer notes β
Always match the ring to its gear cone, inspect the hub/sleeve, measure blocking clearance, deburr dog teeth, and refill with the correct GLβrated oil.
