Final Drive Pinion Gear (Differential Drive Gear) ⚙️

This precision-cut pinion gear is a key part of the final drive system. It is needed to transfer torque from the gearbox output to the ring gear inside the differential, turning engine power into smooth wheel movement. When installed correctly, it keeps the gear mesh stable, reduces drivetrain noise, and helps maintain proper traction feel on acceleration and deceleration.

How It Works ?

The pinion gear spins at high speed and engages the ring gear at a set contact pattern. Correct backlash and bearing preload keep the teeth aligned, so power flows efficiently without overheating. High-grade hardening on the teeth helps resist wear under load, especially during hard launches and highway cruising.

What Happens If It’s Worn or Broken ?

A damaged pinion can cause whining or howling noises, vibration, metal flakes in the oil, clunking on throttle changes, and poor power delivery. If ignored, it may destroy the ring gear and bearings, leading to differential lock-up or loss of drive—often requiring a full final drive rebuild.
