Gearbox Front Cover / Bearing Retainer βοΈ
This OEM-grade transmission front cover assembly seals the nose of the gearbox, supports the input shaft bearing, and provides a smooth guide tube for the clutch release bearing. It keeps gear oil inside, maintains perfect shaft alignment, and ensures quiet, clean clutch operation.
Why you need it οΈ
With age, the input shaft oil seal hardens, the guide sleeve wears, or the casting can warp. The result is leaks, difficult gear engagement, noisy bearings, and premature clutch wear. Installing a fresh unit restores sealing, smooth release bearing travel, and correct bearing preload.
How it works
Bolted to the transmission case, the cover precisely locates the input bearing, houses the lip seal around the input shaft, and acts as a guide for the throw-out bearing. When you press the pedal, the release bearing slides on this tube to disengage the clutch while the cover retains oil and keeps the shaft aligned.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Expect gear oil drips from the bellhousing, clutch contamination and odor, grinding into 1st/Reverse, chatter on takeoff, and whine in neutral. Running low on oil can overheat gears and synchronizers, leading to costly transmission damage.
Tech notes β
Always replace the input seal and gasket/sealant, inspect fork pivot and release bearing, torque bolts evenly to spec, and refill with the correct GL-4 lubricant after installation.
