Transmission Neutral Safety / Range Switch for Nissan trucks
Why you need it
This switch stops the engine from cranking when a gear is engaged. It sends a clear Park/Neutral signal to the ECU/TCM for stable idle, 4x4 logic, and cruise control. On many setups it also feeds the reverse lamp circuit. The result is safer starts, correct shift strategy, and clean diagnostics.
How it works
Mounted on the gearbox or selector shaft, the unit uses a plunger and contact tracks (or a solid-state sensor) to detect lever position. When in Neutral or Park it closes the start-enable circuit and outputs a 12V reference to the control module. Sealed housing and OE-style connector keep water and dust out ️.
If the switch fails
Typical signs include no-crank in Park, starting only in Neutral, intermittent starts when wiggling the shifter, dead reverse lights, harsh idle on tip-in, and stored codes like P0850/P1706. Ignoring it can cause unsafe launches, battery strain, or transmission limp behavior.
Tech notes & install
Direct-fit, plug-and-play. Disconnect battery, set lever to Neutral, remove old switch, align witness marks, torque to spec, plug in, then verify start in P/N and backup lights in R. Add dielectric grease for long life .
