This transmission oil strainer keeps your gearbox safe by capturing metal dust and clutch debris before they reach solenoids and the valve body. Clean ATF equals stable pressure, smooth shifts, and long service life. It is a must-have part during fluid service or when shift quality declines.
How It Works ⚙️
Mounted in the pan near the pump pickup, it pulls ATF through a fine mesh. The screen stops particles while allowing steady flow to the pump. Correct flow maintains line pressure, lubricates gears and clutches, and cools the unit during daily driving and towing.
What Happens If It Fails ❗
Clogging or cracks cause low pressure, delayed engagement (D to drive lag), flare or harsh shifts, pump whine, overheating, and eventual clutch burn. Debris can stick solenoids and trigger limp mode. Ignoring it risks costly transmission rebuilds.
Service Tips
Replace during ATF change. Clean pan and magnets , fit new O-ring/gasket, torque bolts evenly, and refill with the correct Subaru ATF spec. After installation, check for leaks and verify fluid level warm and idling in Park.
