How it works
When you press the pedal, the master cylinder pushes brake fluid through a line. That pressure drives the slave piston forward, moving the pushrod and release fork, which lifts the pressure plate off the disc. A return spring resets the piston when you let the pedal go. Seals inside keep fluid in and air out; a bleed screw allows easy servicing.

Leaks or worn seals cause a soft or sinking pedal, hard gear engagement, grinding on shifts, or the vehicle creeping with the pedal down. Air ingress gives a spongy feel and long travel. Severe failure can leave the pedal on the floor and prevent shifting at all, risking clutch and gearbox damage. Replace at the first sign of wet housing, low fluid, or dark, contaminated fluid.
