Automatic Transmission Oil Pump Assembly ?️
This hydraulic pump is a core part inside the automatic gearbox. It is needed to build and maintain oil pressure that feeds the valve body, clutch packs, and lubrication channels. Without correct pressure, the transmission cannot apply gears cleanly, cool itself, or protect internal bushings and bearings from wear.
How It Works ⚙️
Driven by the engine through the torque converter, the pump pulls ATF from the pan, pressurizes it, and sends it through the filter and hydraulic circuits. That pressure becomes the “muscle” that engages clutches, controls shift timing, and keeps critical parts lubricated during acceleration, cruising, and stop‑and‑go driving.
Signs of a Failing Pump ❗
When the pump is worn, cracked, or leaking internally, pressure drops. You may notice delayed engagement, harsh or slipping shifts, overheating, whining noise, or sudden loss of drive. If ignored, low pressure can burn clutch plates and damage the valve body, turning a small fix into a full transmission rebuild.
