Clutch Release Fork Pivot Ball βοΈ
This small but critical clutch hardware piece acts as the main pivot point for the release fork inside the bellhousing. It is needed to keep the fork aligned and stable so clutch disengagement stays smooth, quiet, and consistent. When you press the clutch pedal, the slave cylinder (or linkage) pushes the release fork; the fork rocks on this ball-stud and moves the release bearing toward the pressure plate fingers, separating engine power from the gearbox for clean shifting.
How It Works π§
The rounded head provides a low-friction seat for the fork. Correct geometry here means proper fork angle, correct bearing travel, and even pressure on the clutch diaphragm. Good pivot support also reduces vibration and prevents the fork from twisting under load.
If Itβs Worn or Broken π¨
A damaged pivot can cause hard gear engagement, clutch drag, squeaks/clicks, uneven pedal feel, or a pedal that suddenly changes height. In severe cases the fork can slip off its position, leaving you unable to disengage the clutch and risking release bearing and pressure plate damage.
