Clutch Release Bearing Assembly for Toyota drivetrains βοΈ
This is the clutch release bearing, also called the throwout bearing. It is needed to disengage the clutch smoothly so you can shift gears without grinding. It transfers pedal force to the clutch spring with minimal friction, keeping shifts quiet and protecting the transmission input shaft and clutch set.
How it works
Press the pedal and the fork moves the bearing along the guide tube. The bearing face spins against the diaphragm fingers of the pressure plate, separating the disc from the flywheel. Because the bearing rotates, contact is smooth and the gearbox can change gears without drag.
What happens if itβs worn or broken β
Early signs are chirp or squeal at idle with the pedal pressed, pedal vibration, and notchy shifts. Later, you may feel clutch drag or slip and hear gear crunch. Ignoring it can burn the pressure plate fingers, bend the fork, wear the guide sleeve, and even damage the transmission.
Tech tips β
Replace it whenever the clutch is serviced. Inspect fork pivots and clips, lightly grease the guide sleeve with high-temp grease, and align the disc. Bleed the hydraulics and test drive for noise.
