Why you need it
Without a healthy pressure plate, the drivetrain loses bite. This part ensures clean take-off, fast gear changes, and protects the flywheel and transmission from heat and shock.
How it works
Bolted to the flywheel, the cover holds a diaphragm spring. Pedal released = spring squeezes the disc to the flywheel, transmitting torque. Pedal pressed = release bearing flexes the spring fingers, freeing the disc for shifting. A rigid cover, heat-treated straps, and precise balance reduce chatter and vibration for long life .
What happens if it’s broken
Weak or cracked unit drops clamp force: slip under load, burnt smell, RPM flare with no speed, hard or spongy pedal, shudder on take-off, noisy fingers, rough engagement. Continued driving can blue the flywheel, wear the disc rivets, and damage input shaft bearings and synchros ⚠️.
Tech notes
Resurface/inspect flywheel, replace disc, release and pilot bearings as a set, align precisely, and torque bolts in a star pattern. Bed-in 300–500 km for best pedal feel and grip.
