Why this part is needed β
It presses the friction disc against the flywheel so engine power reaches the gearbox without slip. A healthy pressure plate gives consistent pedal feel, protects the transmission, and helps the clutch last longer.
How it works
Bolted to the flywheel, the diaphragm spring applies even clamping force. When you press the pedal, the release bearing deflects the spring to free the disc for a shift. Vents and mass control heat, while the cover keeps alignment steady under torque.
What happens if it fails β οΈ
Signs include slipping under load, burnt smell, RPM flare, shudder, hard gear engagement, noisy or heavy pedal, and vibration. Continued use can blue the flywheel, crack the cover, glaze the disc, and damage the input shaft bearing. Replace as a set with disc and release bearing; torque bolts in a star pattern, align the disc, and keep surfaces clean οΈ.
