Outer CV Joint Rubber Boot for Subaru AWD
This durable rubber boot is a small but critical shield for the outer CV joint on many Subaru all-wheel-drive axles. Its main job is to keep the special grease inside the joint and block water, sand, and road salt from getting in. 🚗💨
Why this part is needed
The CV joint must flex and rotate smoothly while you steer and drive over bumps. Without a sealed boot, the joint cannot stay lubricated for long, especially in wet or dusty conditions.
How it works
The boot clamps tightly to the axle shaft and the joint housing, forming a flexible “accordion” seal. As the suspension moves and the wheels turn, it expands and compresses while holding grease in place. 🔧
What happens if it’s broken
A split boot throws grease onto the wheel well, then dirt enters and grinds the joint. You may hear clicking when turning, feel vibration on acceleration, and eventually lose drive to that axle. Replacing the boot early can save the full axle assembly. ⚠️
Technician tip
Always fit new clamps and refill with the correct CV grease during installation for a long, quiet service life.
