Why this part is needed
This relay safeguards and switches the DC‑DC converter that steps system voltage to a steady 12V. It feeds ECUs, lighting, fuel pump, ABS, infotainment, and charging to the auxiliary battery. How it works
The ECU or ignition sends a signal to the relay coil. The coil magnet closes heavy‑duty contacts, routing power to the converter. When demand drops or a fault appears, it opens to isolate the circuit. Quality copper‑alloy contacts and arc suppression reduce heat and voltage spikes for long life.
What happens if it breaks ⚠️
Open or burned contacts: no converter output, dim/flickering lights, low 12V charge, warning lamp, rough idle, or no‑start. Stuck closed: battery drain and overheating risk. Intermittent faults: random resets of ECUs, blown fuses, clicking noises. Prolonged driving may damage the converter and battery.
