Automatic Transmission Cooler Oil Filter
This filter is a small but critical guard for your automatic gearbox cooling circuit. It is needed to catch fine metal dust, clutch material, and sludge before they travel through the transmission oil cooler and back into the valve body. Clean ATF flow helps the gearbox keep stable pressure, smooth shifting, and correct temperature control.
How It Works βοΈ
As hot ATF leaves the transmission, it passes through the cooler line and through this filter media. The element traps debris while allowing a steady flow to the cooler core. By keeping passages clean, it protects the solenoids, shift valves, and cooler channels from restriction and scoring.
What Happens If Itβs Clogged or Damaged β
A restricted filter can reduce ATF flow, causing higher transmission temperature, delayed engagement, harsh shifts, and shudder under load. If the media breaks down, dirt can circulate and damage the valve body and pump, leading to costly rebuilds. Replace it during ATF service or anytime the cooler system is opened.
