Pillar-Mount Antenna Assembly
This pillar-mounted antenna unit is needed to pick up AM/FM radio signals clearly while you drive. It mounts on the body pillar and connects to the head unit through a coax cable, turning weak air-wave signals into clean audio reception. A good antenna helps reduce hiss, dropouts, and โsearchingโ stations when you move between cities or pass tall buildings.
How It Works
The mast and internal elements capture radio frequency waves. The signal is guided through shielded wiring to prevent electrical noise from ignition and alternator systems. The base also seals the mounting point to help keep water and dust out of the pillar area.
When Replacement Is Needed
If the antenna is bent, snapped, corroded, or the base seal fails, reception becomes weak or completely lost. You may hear crackling, only get strong local stations, or lose radio when hitting bumps. A damaged seal can also allow moisture inside the pillar, leading to rust and connector oxidation over time โ ๏ธ.
