Why your vehicle needs it
The starter converts battery power into mechanical rotation to spin the engine to ignition speed. Without it, fuel and spark never meet. A healthy unit means fast starts, reduced battery strain, and less wear on the flywheel.
How it works οΈ
A builtβin solenoid pushes the pinion gear to the flywheel ring gear, then energizes the DC motor. A reduction gear and overrunning clutch multiply torque and protect the motor once the engine fires. When you release the key, the pinion retracts cleanly.
What happens if itβs broken
Clicking, slow crank, or no crank; dash lights dim; intermittent starts; grinding that can damage the flywheel; burning smell from overheated windings. Prolonged use can kill the battery and strand the vehicle.
