Automatic Transmission Oil Pan Seal

This seal sits between the automatic gearbox oil pan and the transmission case. Its main job is to keep ATF fluid inside under heat, vibration, and pressure changes. A tight, clean seal is critical because the transmission depends on stable fluid level for lubrication, cooling, and smooth shifting βš™οΈ.

Why this part is needed

Every time the pan is removed for service (fluid change, filter cleaning, inspection), the old seal can compress, harden, or tear. Replacing it helps prevent leaks and keeps the gearbox operating at the correct fluid pressure.

How it works

When the pan bolts are tightened, the seal is evenly crushed to fill tiny gaps in the metal surfaces. This creates a barrier that stops ATF from seeping out, even during hot running conditions and off-road movement .

What happens if it’s broken

A damaged seal can cause slow drips or sudden leaks. Low ATF may lead to delayed engagement, harsh shifts, slipping, overheating, and internal clutch damage. Ignoring a leak can turn a small service into a full transmission rebuild ❗.
