Rear Differential Temperature Switch Assembly

This small but critical sensor-switch is used to monitor heat inside the rear differential. When towing, driving fast, or working in hot weather, differential oil can overheat. This part is needed to warn the system early, helping protect gears, bearings, and lubricant from burning and losing strength.

How It Works ⚙️

The switch sits in the differential area and reacts to oil temperature. Once the preset temperature is reached, it changes its internal contact state (ON/OFF). That signal is used to trigger a warning light or control logic, letting the driver know the differential is running too hot so load and speed can be reduced before damage starts.

When It Fails

A faulty unit may stay open or closed. If it doesn’t switch on, you may get no overheat warning and the diff can run excessively hot—leading to noisy bearings, gear wear, burnt oil smell, and expensive differential rebuilds. If it stays on, you may see constant warnings or false alerts, causing confusion and unnecessary inspections.

Common Symptoms

  • Intermittent or постоянный (constant) diff temperature warning
  • Overheating after short trips under load
  • Electrical test shows no continuity change with heat
