RH Brake Backing Plate Assembly for Subaru Performance Platforms 🔧🛡️
This right-hand rear backing plate is a core brake component that supports the parking brake shoes and shields the disc from road debris. Built to OE geometry, it keeps the handbrake hardware aligned, protects the rotor and caliper from water and stones, and helps airflow for cooler, consistent braking. Ideal when your original plate is rusted, bent, or missing sections.
Why you need it ✅
It mounts and locates the drum-in-hat parking brake shoes, stabilizes the adjuster and springs, and works as a dust shield. Without a solid plate, the handbrake loses holding power and the disc faces contamination.
How it works ⚙️
The stamped steel plate bolts to the knuckle on the right side. It provides anchor points for the shoes, keeps correct clearance to the rotor hat, and guards the wheel bearing area and tone ring from grit and splash.
What happens if it’s broken ❗
Expect scraping noises, rattles, weak or uneven parking brake, hot spots on the disc, faster pad wear, stuck adjusters, and possible ABS faults due to contamination. Severe rust can let stones contact the rotor and may lead to test failure.
Installation notes 🔩
Clean the hub face, torque fasteners to spec, renew shoes/springs if worn, apply anti-seize to bolts (not friction areas), adjust the handbrake, and confirm free wheel rotation on the RH side.
