Rear Drum Brake Wheel Cylinder Repair Kit for Subaru ?
Why this part is needed
Over time the wheel cylinder in the rear drum brake can leak or stick, making the pedal soft and braking uneven. This repair kit restores hydraulic sealing and smooth piston travel, so your Subaru stops straight, firm, and safe. It’s a cost‑effective fix that keeps your original cylinder body, perfect for OE feel and longevity.
How it works ?️
The wheel cylinder sits in the drum assembly. When you press the pedal, brake fluid pushes two pistons outward, spreading the shoes against the drum. This kit supplies fresh EPDM cups, dust boots, piston ends, and springs (varies by cylinder). New seals hold pressure under heat and DOT 3/4 fluid, while boots block dirt and moisture for consistent braking.
What happens if it’s bad ?
Leaking fluid at the backing plate, spongy pedal, rear pull, or fluid‑soaked shoes. Left unchecked, you get longer stopping distance, overheated brakes, and possible loss of braking on that wheel.
Tech notes ?
Clean and inspect bore; lightly hone if glazed. Lubricate parts with fresh brake fluid only. Assemble in correct orientation, torque fittings, then bleed system until clear and firm. Replace contaminated shoes.
