Rear Window Defogger Control Switch
This cabin control switch lets the driver turn the rear glass defogger on and off when visibility drops from fog, rain, or frost. It’s needed for safe reversing and lane changes, especially in cold mornings and humid climates. A healthy switch gives you quick control without guessing if the heater grid is working.
How It Works ⚙️
When you press the button, the switch sends a signal to the defogger circuit (often through a relay and timer). Power then flows to the heating lines on the rear window, warming the glass and clearing condensation. Many setups also light an indicator so you know the system is active.
Symptoms If It’s Faulty
If the switch is worn or internally burnt, the defogger may not turn on, may cut in and out, or the indicator may not light. In some cases it can stick on, overworking the grid and stressing wiring, fuses, or the relay. The result is poor rear visibility and longer clearing time.
