The radiator cap assembly is a small yet crucial component within the cooling system of your vehicle. It ensures that the coolant remains under pressure, optimizing the engine's operating temperature and preventing overheating. Without this part, the coolant would not be able to efficiently transfer heat away from the engine, leading to potential engine damage.

Why You Need a Radiator Cap

The radiator cap serves as a pressure valve, maintaining the proper pressure level in the cooling system. This pressure support allows the coolant to have a higher boiling point, thus enhancing its effectiveness in heat absorption and maintaining engine temperature.

How It Works

The cap is equipped with a pressure-releasing mechanism, set to open under a specific pressure. When the coolant heats and expands, the cap allows excess to flow into the overflow tank, preventing overflow and maintaining system integrity. Once the system cools down, the vacuum created pulls the coolant back into the radiator.

Consequences of a Damaged Radiator Cap
