Engine Ribbed V-Belt (Accessory Drive Belt) βοΈ
This ribbed belt is a key wear item in the accessory drive system. It is needed to transfer engine rotation from the crank pulley to vital units like the alternator, A/C compressor, and power steering (if equipped). Without a healthy belt, these components cannot work correctly, and the car may quickly become unsafe or unable to drive.
How It Works ?
The multi-rib design grips the pulleys with more contact area than older smooth belts. A spring-loaded tensioner keeps the belt at the right tension, reducing slip and noise. When the engine runs, the belt spins continuously, handling heat, load changes, and moisture every trip.
Signs of a Bad Belt & What Can Happen β
If the belt is cracked, glazed, stretched, or contaminated with oil, it can squeal, slip, or shred. A broken belt may cause battery charging loss, weak or no A/C, heavy steering, overheating on some setups, and sudden roadside breakdown. Replace at the first signs of wear to protect pulleys and tensioner.
