Alternator Drive Pulley Assembly βοΈ
This alternator pulley is a key link between the engine belt and the alternator. It is needed to keep stable charging power for the battery and all electrical loads like lights, ECU, fuel pump, and AC controls π. The pulley works by spinning with the belt, transferring engine rotation into alternator speed, helping the alternator produce correct voltage at idle and higher RPM.
How It Works
As the crankshaft turns, the belt drives the pulley. A good pulley runs true, with smooth bearing support and correct groove alignment, so the belt tracks straight and the alternator spins without drag. This reduces belt noise and keeps charging consistent.
Why Replacement Matters
If the pulley is worn, bent, or its bearing gets rough, you may hear squeal or grinding π¬. The belt can slip, overheat, or shred, leading to weak charging, battery warning light, dim headlights, and random electrical faults. In severe cases the belt may jump off, leaving you with a dead battery and possible overheating if the same belt drives other accessories.
