This sensor is a key input for the ECU to βseeβ how fast the engine is spinning. Itβs needed for clean starting, smooth idle, correct shifting behavior (where applicable), and stable fuel economy. Without accurate rotation feedback, the computer canβt time fuel injection and ignition precisely. β
How it works ?
The sensor reads rotational pulses from a trigger wheel and converts them into an electrical signal. The ECU counts these pulses to calculate RPM in real time, then adjusts spark timing and fueling to match load and driving conditions.
If the sensor is faulty ?
- Hard start or no start
- Stalling at idle, random misfires
