Camshaft Position Sensor for Nissan engines ⚙️

This CMP sensor is a key engine timing device. It tells the ECU the exact position of the camshaft, so the computer can fire the injectors and ignition at the right moment. With a healthy sensor, cold starts are quick, idle is smooth, fuel economy is stable, and tailpipe emissions stay low .

How it works

The sensor reads the camshaft’s trigger wheel using a Hall-effect element or magnetic pickup. It outputs a clean on/off signal that marks cylinder phase. The ECU uses this signal to control sequential injection, spark timing, and variable valve timing, and to match cam/crank correlation for precise combustion.

Why you need it ✅

Without an accurate cam signal, the ECU switches to batch injection and “safe” maps. Power drops, fuel use rises, and drivability suffers. Keeping this sensor in spec protects the catalytic converter and keeps the engine responsive.

What happens if it’s faulty ⚠️

Common symptoms: long crank or no start, rough idle, misfire, poor throttle response, stall at stops, limp mode, increased consumption, and a Check Engine light (often P0340/P0345). Ignoring it can overheat the catalytic converter and foul spark plugs over time.

Tech tips for replacement

  • Disconnect battery, release the connector, remove the retaining bolt, swap the sensor.
  • Lightly oil the O-ring; do not force into the bore.
  • Inspect harness for oil ingress or cracked insulation.
  • Clear codes and verify cam/crank sync in live data after install.
