Precision Camshaft Position Sensor for Smooth Starts and Power βš™οΈ

This camshaft position sensor (CMP) feeds the engine computer with exact cam angle data, so ignition and fuel happen at the right millisecond. With a clean signal, the ECU syncs injection to the correct stroke and manages variable valve timing for crisp throttle, stable idle, and lower emissions.

Why it’s needed

Without accurate cam feedback, the engine cannot determine cylinder phase. The result is weak starting, poor economy, and lost low‑end torque. A healthy sensor restores factory timing, smooth acceleration, and dependable cold starts.

How it works

A Hall‑effect element reads a toothed cam trigger wheel. It generates a digital square‑wave that the ECU compares to the crank signal to know which cylinder is on compression. That synchronization controls spark timing, injector sequencing, and VVT actuation.

When it fails ⚠️

Symptoms include long crank or no‑start, rough idle, hesitation, limp mode, higher fuel use, and a Check Engine Light with codes like P0340/P0341. Prolonged mis‑sync can harm the catalytic converter and foul plugs.

Tech tips

Inspect wiring and connectors for oil intrusion. Seat the O‑ring, torque the retaining bolt gently, and clear codes after install. Some ECUs need a short relearn drive cycle.
