Engine Connecting Rod Bushing (Hyundai/Kia/Genesis)
This small sleeve is a critical bearing surface inside the engine connecting rod. It is needed to keep the wrist pin (piston pin) running smooth, centered, and properly lubricated while the rod moves up and down thousands of times per minute. Even though it looks simple, it protects expensive parts like the rod, piston, and crank system.
How It Works ?
The bushing sits pressed into the small end of the connecting rod. It creates a controlled clearance between the rod and the wrist pin so engine oil can form a thin film. That oil layer reduces friction, keeps temperatures down, and prevents metal-to-metal contact during cold starts, hard acceleration, and high RPM driving.
Why Replacement Matters β
Over time, heat, load, and poor oil quality can wear the bushing oval. Once clearance opens up, the pin can hammer the rod end, causing vibration and loss of smooth power.
If Itβs Worn or Broken β οΈ
You may hear a sharp ticking/knock from the top of the engine, see metal particles in oil, or get piston scuffing. If ignored, it can lead to rod damage, seized pin, piston failure, and a full engine rebuild.
