In-Tank Fuel Pump Strainer / Filter 🛠️
This small mesh filter sits on the fuel pump inlet inside the tank. Its job is simple but critical: stop rust flakes, sand, and tank sludge from entering the pump and fuel system. Clean fuel keeps pressure stable and protects injectors from wear.

Modern engines need steady fuel flow. When this strainer is fresh, the pump can pull fuel freely without overworking. It helps maintain correct delivery, smoother idle, and stronger acceleration—especially under load or hot conditions.
How it works ⚙️
Fuel is drawn through a fine nylon mesh “sock.” The mesh traps larger contaminants before they reach the pump impeller and the main fuel filter. This reduces cavitation noise and keeps pump current draw within normal range.
What happens if it’s clogged or damaged 🚫
A restricted or torn strainer can cause hard starting, hesitation, loss of power on hills, lean running, and random stalling. The pump may get loud, run hotter, and fail early. Debris passing through can also block injectors and trigger check-engine faults.
