🌡️ Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
This sensor is a small but very important part of the engine control system. It reads coolant temperature and sends the signal to the ECU, helping the engine run with the correct fuel mixture, ignition timing, idle speed, and cooling fan operation.
Why This Part Is Needed
The ECU must know if the engine is cold, warming up, or fully hot. A good temperature reading helps improve starting, fuel economy, emissions, and engine protection. Without correct data, the vehicle may use too much fuel or run poorly.
How It Works ⚙️
Inside the sensor is a temperature-sensitive resistor. As coolant temperature changes, electrical resistance changes too. The ECU reads this change and adjusts engine operation in real time. It is fitted into the coolant passage for direct and fast temperature measurement.
What Happens If It Fails?
A faulty sensor can cause hard starting, rough idle, black smoke, poor fuel economy, overheating warning issues, cooling fan problems, or a check engine light. In some cases, the ECU may use emergency values, but engine performance will not be correct.
