Engine Intake Pressure Sensor Assembly
This sensor assembly is needed to help the engine computer read intake manifold pressure (load). With accurate pressure data, the ECU can set the right fuel injection and ignition timing, improving start-up, smooth idle, and fuel economy. It’s a small part, but it has a big effect on drivability ⚙️.
How It Works
Inside the unit is a sensitive pressure element that converts air pressure changes into an electrical signal. As you accelerate, boost, or cruise, manifold pressure changes fast. The sensor sends a matching voltage to the ECU, which then adjusts fuel and spark in real time to keep the air/fuel ratio stable and protect the engine from knock 🔧.
Signs of Failure & What Can Happen
If the sensor is weak, contaminated, or electrically open/shorted, the ECU receives false load information. This can cause rough idle, hesitation, poor power, higher fuel use, hard starting, or a check engine light. In severe cases the engine may run too rich or too lean, risking misfire, catalytic converter damage, and detonation under load 🚗.
