Engine Air Flow Meter Assembly
This sensor assembly is a key input for the engine computer. It measures how much air is entering the intake so the ECU can deliver the right fuel amount and keep power, idle quality, and emissions under control .
Why this part is needed
Modern Toyota engines rely on accurate air measurement to calculate fuel trim and ignition strategy. A healthy meter helps the engine start easily, respond smoothly to throttle, and protect the catalytic converter.
How it works
Air passing through the housing flows across a sensing element. The sensor converts airflow changes into an electrical signal. The ECU uses that signal to adjust injector pulse width and maintain the correct air‑fuel ratio in real time .
What happens if it’s broken
A failing unit can cause rough idle, hesitation, poor fuel economy, hard starting, black smoke, and loss of power. In many cases the ECU will store fault codes and may force a “limp” strategy. Long-term driving with wrong readings can foul spark plugs and overheat the catalyst ⚠️.
Installation notes
Keep the intake duct sealed, avoid touching the sensing element, and ensure the connector pins are clean and tight for stable readings.
