How it works
Driven by the distributor shaft, the rotor spins in sync with the camshaft. Each coil pulse jumps to the rotor tip, which passes the charge to the matching cap terminal, firing the correct cylinder in sequence. Proper clearances and a firm fit prevent misfire under load.
What happens if it’s broken
Cracks, burned tips, or looseness cause misfires, hard starting, backfire, rough idle, power loss, and high fuel use. Severe failure leads to no‑start, raw fuel in the exhaust, and risk to the catalytic converter.
