Why this part is needed
This precision camshaft sensor feeds the ECU with exact cam position data, keeping injection, ignition, and variable valve timing in perfect sync. It’s essential for quick starts, smooth idle, strong torque, clean emissions, and good fuel economy. Without an accurate signal, engine management guesses—and performance drops.
How it works 🧠
A Hall‑effect core reads a toothed cam trigger ring. Each tooth passing the sensor creates a crisp digital pulse. The ECU matches this with crank signals to know which cylinder is on compression, then fires coils and injectors at the right moment and adjusts VVT. A molded body, heat‑resistant potting, and an O‑ring seal protect the electronics from oil, vibration, and high temperatures.
What happens if it’s broken ⚠️
Symptoms include hard starting, long cranking, random stalling, rough idle, misfire, weak acceleration, poor mileage, and a Check Engine Light (common cam signal codes). The ECU may enter limp mode, catalytic converter life can shorten, and cold starts become unreliable.
