Why this part is needed
This flexible membrane seals vacuum and converts suction into motion to operate key devices: carburetor secondary, choke pullβoff, fuel enrichment, EGR or other vacuum actuators. A healthy diaphragm keeps cold starts clean, idle stable, and acceleration smooth β½.
How it works
Manifold vacuum draws on a fuelβresistant rubber sheet. The sheet flexes, moving a rod or lever against a spring. Precise material hardness and orifice size control response, delivering factoryβcorrect timing of fuel and air functions βοΈ.
What happens if itβs broken
Tears or stiffness cause vacuum leaks and lost motion: hard starting, flat spots, stalling after throttle, rough idle, poor fuel economy, fuel smell, and pinging. Prolonged use can foul plugs and overheat the catalyst on later models β οΈ.
Tech tips
